A Week In The Cold (Part 2)

Now during this time, I was scrambling all over the place. The power was off but we have water but I don’t know how I was going to make another night in the apartment because I was struggling to light a fire. The second night my family went by a friend who still had power and water. So I was the last one who was waiting for things to get back to normal. Tuesday night I met with my family and we all were back together where we were safe.

So going into Wednesday we had no power but fortunately, I keep in contact with one of our neighbors so when we find got the power back on it was safe to go back home. The best part about the whole thing was we had electricity in the house. And since we stayed with a friend I was able to take a bath and I was able to go to sleep not being cold. But the night in paradise was over and it was time to go back home.

When we made it to the house we there was electricity but now we had no water. So it was such a good thing that I already took a shower while we were away. Now we were in a bigger situation. With no water how are we going to cook, clean, bathe, and most importantly drink? We were a little prepared we had water for drinking but not much more. I got a large jug from work and a coworker gave us a few packs of water. All of which we were very grateful for.

Now that we had water we were able to relax a little. We started cooking again but we have to bake everything so that we would not dirty up extra dishes. The second half of the week was a little easier than the beginning but it was still filled with struggles. Trying to keep a baby and ourselves clean with no running water was difficult. Thank goodness for baby wipes or we would have not made it. Also thanks to all of our friends who were able to help us out. If it hadn’t been for a coworker we would have not been able to bathe. A few friends opened up their homes to us so that we had a place to clean ourselves and lay our heads.

The entire week was hard and we were lucky that it was not more difficult. We survived, we are stronger now and more prepared for the next disaster. Hopefully, it won’t be another one any time soon.
