Hajime no Ippo

Hajime no Ippo is one of my all-time favorite sports anime. In the series, we are introduced to our main character Ippo Makunouchi. Ippo is a high school student who is constantly being bullied by other students. One day while on his way home Ippo is being bullied and he is rescued by Mamoru Takamura a local boxing champion. After Ippo is rescued by Takamura he brings Ippo back to the gym to get some first aid and during all of this Ippo becomes interested in boxing so that he can learn what it means to be strong.

The search for the answer to this question is what sets Ippo on his journey to become a boxer. And it is what gives him the ability to gain self-confidence. Self-confidence, determination, and a community are the tools that Ippo acquires to complete his hero’s journey. When Ippo steps into the ring these are the tools he uses to win. This is why I love Hajime no Ippo so much. Ippo is just a normal guy who dedicates himself to something and he works hard to get it. Ippo is not some freak of nature that is really strong his strength comes from the work he does in his family business.

Will Ippo become the champion, will his dream become a reality? What is his final destination, what does it mean to truly be strong? I don’t have the answer to these questions at my current position in his story. I hope I get to discover the answers as I continue the story.
